(From Our Own Correspondent.)

SALVATION ARMY,

WELCOME TO TERRITORIAL LEADER.

The newly-appomted territorial leader,. Colonel Carmichael, and also the territorial secretary, Staff-Captain Garner, were welcomed to Eltham on Thursday evening by the members of the Salvation Army and citizens. Captain Norman, officer in charge of the local corps, presided, and called upon representatives of the various corps to extend a welcome on behalf of their respective branches of work. The Mayor (Mr, I. J. Bridgei") was also IJresent by invitation and; extended a welcome on behalf of the citizens. In the course of his remarks he said that the Salvation Army never lived in the past. It was always a progressive body. It did its duty regardless of the day to come. There never had been a time when they could say, “It is yesterday,” and there never -would be a time when they could say “It is to-morrow.” It was always and for ever “to-day.” The Army officers always realised this, and their activities were never postponed until some future time. He then congratulated the colonel oil liis very important appointment and wished him and the Army every success in all their endeavours.

The colonoi and staff-captain both delivered short but telling addresses, in the course of which they stated that there was a renewed interest in the Salvation Army and much activity was manifest in many of the corps under their jurisdiction.
