NELSON MAN’S BEQUESTS

AREA FOR EXPERIMENTAL FARM

NELSON, Feb. 19.

Various bequests ox a public nature are made under the will of the late Mr James Wilfred Marsden to the Nelson Diocesan Trust. Board. These include 52 acres of land at- Stoke, with deceased’s residence for a permanent residence for the Bishop of Nelson and his successors in office for- ail time, subject to a life interest to Mrs Marsden; also approximately £16,000 for Various purposes, including £4ooo' for the new cathedral fund. To the Cawthron Institute is bequeathed 64 acres of land at Stoke for experimental work in agriculture and forestry, also a. valuable collection of books as the nucleus of a complete reference library of New Zealand history, literature and research. To the Salvation Army is given £llOO and the deceased’s 10 per cent, cumulative preference shares in the Great Western Colliery, Ltd.; to the Barnardo Homes £300; to the W hite Haven Infirmary (Whitehaven, Cumberland, England) approximately £6000; to the Board of Missions £'4loo for Melanesian missions.

After making certain private, specific and pecuniary bequests and bequeathing certain annuities, the testa, tor devises and bequeaths his residuary estate as under to the Nelson Diocesan Trust Board: One-half part thereof for the purpose of strengthening and extending the usefulness of the Church of England in the Nelson diocese; to. the Salvation Army, one-fourth part thereof for charitable institutions, homes ana work in connection therewith throughout New Zealand; to the Cawthron Institute one-fourth part to be specifically set apart as an endowment fund for the introduction, testing ail’d experimental cultivation of valuable forest trees and ornamental shrubs and trees adapted to the climate of New Zealand, and also for the introduction, testing, experimental, cultivation and improvement of gram, pasture grasses and forage and other useful plants, and for reporting upon same respectively.
