WHY IS IT DARK AT NIGHT ?
we call it night time. The sun shows us our light and sends us down its strong heat.—Phyllis Woodhead.
[The sun does not move.. It is fixed, but it is convenient for us to say that it does. What really happens is that the earth moves round on its axis from west to east. It takes 24 hours to make one complete revolution or turn. Night and darknesai cover the period of time when that, part of the earth on which we live is turned away from the sun. Some part of our. world, then, is always in darkness. Besides turning on its axis, the earth moves in a certain course, making different lengths of night in the various seasons. We have much less: darkness now than we have in winter. When we have darkness people on. the other side of the globe having light.—S.Q.]
