CREW’S THRIILLING EXPERIENCES
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION - COPYRIGHT. LONDON, Feb, 18. A renewal of the great gales brought a batch of thrilling sea. stories. The liner Manchester Producer has been drifting helplessly in mid-Atlantic for a fortnight. Four vessels successively attempted towage, but each time the hawser broke. A fifth vessel is standing by. The crew of eleven of the steam trawler Tenby Castle, who for three days has been mourned as lost, have been discovered to be alive and well on an island off the Irish coast. The schooner Useful, en route from Bideford to Glasgow, was driven ashore in Solway Firth. The. crew had a terrible experience. The sails were torn to shreds.
The crew were without food for sixty hours, and their hands were lacerated. They burned their clothing in a vain attempt to attract attention by signallino-. Denis O’Leary died within! a hundred yards of land, his body being lashed to the deck.
