LONDON, Feb. 1

The latter, seeing the constable m a lane at Sittinghourne. Kent, immediatelv halted down a side-street, vaulted garden' fences and climbed a, garden wall. Here be paused for breath, but was surprised to find the constable hotly following. Again lie broke away, with a wild dash across fields and plough-land, taking fences, ditches, dykes and hedges in his stride, then, seeing a passing lorry, h e obtained a lift, but later saw a closed ca.r* following. This he thought would, he an even quicker means of escape, so he stopped the car and asked the driver for a lift. The driver readily consented, and the suspect, on entering, was so. surprised to see the constable inside that he surrendered without resistance. The constable who was exhausted and cut and bleeding from bramb’e scratches, was unaware that his quarry had been aboard the lorry until the man walked right into his clutches.
