ADVENTUROUS CAREER.
A YOUNG MAN OF MANY PARTS BY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON, Feb. 16. When Wilfred Macartney, aged S 3, stood manacled in the dock at the Old Bailey charged with breaking and entering a. West End store, he told a story revealing an amazing career. He fought in France at the age of sixteen as a commissioned officer in the Royal Scots in 1915. Later he was governor of Zoa Island, in the Aegean Sea, and then a King’s Messenger between Corfu and Rome. He was decorated by M. Venizelos (ex-Premier of Greece) for quelling a mutiny. He rejoined at Cam'brai. He escaped by jumping from a train and made his way to England. Then he was sent to Constantinople, where-lie served until 1919. Then he took up his father’s interest in the Malta tramways, increasing his holdings to £63,000. Regarding the present charge he said he actually chased the man who broke the window, but in a scuffle the police arrested him, while the real culprit escaped. All along he protested his innocence.
