GOVERNMENT GRANT CRITICISED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. LONDON, Feb. 16. In the House of Commons, following up an announcement that the Government proposed to grant £200,000 towards sports grounds for members of the civil service, several members of the House of Commons protested that this was unnecessary expense, when national economy was important. Mr Baldwin spiritedly defended the grant, pointing oirt that every big employer had provided similar facilities for the recreation of employees. The State thus far, had provided no such consideration for its 300,000 employees. ■—A. and N.Z. Assn.
