TO BE RUN BY GERMANS.

SOUTH AFRICAN AVIATION SERVICE. BY CABLE -PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. CAPETOWN, Feb. IG. South Africa will probably soon have the distinction of being tlie only British Dominion to run civil aviation by German machines financed by a German firm. The Union invited tenders from overseas, based on a subsidy of £BOOO annually, which was embodied in next year’s estimates. British firms offered to tender provided the subsidy was £45,000. Junkers tendered and the Air Board decided that the machines were suitable, but stipulated that the service should not begin until South Africans had been trained to fly them In the event of war the Government will commandeer the machines. The contract will be reviewed at the end of the year. The settling of the contract was delayed owing to the junkers not responding to a cable asking for guarantees. The public is asking if the German Government is subsidising the service.
