News has been received by an Auckland resident of the death of Lieuten- ' ant Frederick Kahn, one of the American naval aviators who was on board the Colorado when that ship was in that port with the fleet last August. The young officer, who wa6 regarded as one of the finest pilots in the service, crashed while performing flying exercises as part of his duty at the San Deigo naval base a few months ago, the cause of the accident being the snapping of a portion of his ’plane’s structure while the machine / was in mid-air.. While in Auckland Lieutenant Kahn, who was the senior \ aviator on the Colorado, was one of the officers who flew above the city every day. In this connection he was usually associated with Lieutenant Padford. He always led the machines in the displays of formation flying that were a feature of the fleet’s stay in Auckland.
