MEAT WORKS’ SALF.
GOVERNMENT’S VETO ON TRANSACTION. ' UNSUCCESSFUL APPEALS TO MINISTER. (By Telegraph —Special to the Star.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 17. A large number of letters have appeared in the Wellington press discussing the Government's refvsal to grant a meat export and killing license, to enable the Wellington Meat nxport Company’s work te be sold to Borthwieks. Some of the shareholders ask why they should not be allowed to get out of the position with the ioss or all hut eight shilling's in the pound of the capital they subscribed, instead of being forced to continue this season, with the prospect of losing everything. It is understood that strong. efforts have been made to get- the Minister of Agriculture to recede from his original decision, the suggestion being made that Thomas Borthwick and Sons would be willing to complete the purchase if the license was issued with rassonaj-e conditions to protect the interest winch the Government has in mini ?n its complete refusal. No concession has been secured, and it is expected that “XU' ing can be done except to Parliament when the session ejrens, asking for an inquiry and for redress.
