WOOL BUYERS’ ULTIMATUM.
OBJECT TO SMALL ALLOCATION
A DISPUTE AT WANGANUI
(BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ABGOCIATION.) WANGANUI, Feb. 15.
A dispute developed here quickly yesterday in regard to the 12,000 bales allocation for the wool .sale tomorrow. .In response to a wire .sent from Christchurch to the Wanganui Woolbrokens’ Association, buyers arrived here thinking that the allocation was 16,000 instead of 12,000, but they discovered on. arrival that the wire had been a mistake. The buyers met last evening and decided to inform the wool allocation committee that unless the allocation was increased to 16,000 they will not operate at to-morrow’s sale, nor will they -buy at the succeeding sales in the Dominion. It is claimed that 12,000 bales is not a respectable day’s work and not enough to go round. The -buyers have no complaint against the woolbrokers here, but against the allocation committee. It was claimed by certain members that the committee had outlived its usefulness. The allocation committe is to- meet at Wellington this afternoon and the result of its deliberations is eagerly awaited. There- is more than twice- the amount ol wool allocated in store here. PROTESTS LODGED. WANGANUI, Feb. 15. In connection with the wool trouble the Mayor of Wanganui, Mr. Hope Gibbons, and the chairman of the harbour board, Mr. A. G. Bignell, have telegraphed to the Minister of Agriculture and the wool committee, strong“ly protesting against the continued limitation of the Wanganui catalogue.
