an EFFORT TO ENCOURAGE. BY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION - COPYRIGHT Received Feb. 15, 12.24 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 14. In a letter to Sir Martin Conway, from New York, Sir Joheph Duveen announces that in order to encourage British art he is forming ,a small Committee of ten persons of acknowledged position and authority, and placing at its disposal £IOOO annually to purchase paintings of contemporary British artists, preferably young artists. The committee will hold the pictures acquired, with power to lend or to present them to any public gallery in the British Empire or the United States. Aus. and N.Z. Assn.
