WILKINS’ TRANS-POLAR DASH BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. NEW YORK, Feb. 12. Captain George Wilkins, the Australian, who is now’ on route to Point Barrow, Northern Alaska, from w’here ho will hop off in March in an attempt to fly over the North Pole to Spitzbergen, “will never make it in a plane,” said Captain Roald Amundsen, the Norwegian explorer to-day, at Sacramento, California, where he is now sojourning; ”1 learned the lesson on my last voyage that it is almost certain death or ultimate destruction to land on ice floes,” added Captain Amundsen. A message from Menana, Alaska, stated that Captain Wilkins’ transpolar expedition supply party have returned. Their snow motors were damaged, occasioning a delay of many hours. They only travelled three miles after yesterdayjs start on the Menana River. SUPPLY PARTY MAKES ANOTHER START. Received Feb 15. 11.18 a.m. NENANA, Feb. 14. After a false start, due to damaged snow motors, the supply party for the expedition hv Captain Wilkins recommenced its 700-mile trip to Point Bar. row on Saturday.
