TITANIA’S PALACE.
SI R N.. WILKINSON’S WORLD TOUR.
Sir Nevile Wilkinson, Ulster King of Arms, whose Titnnia’s Palace, which took him 22 years to build, is now being exhibited in London in aid of a children’s hospital, told millions of listeners-in all about his achievement.
“Since the Queen opened the palace in 1922, we have collected £4200 for charities and 200.000 people have been to see it,’’ he said. “What value do you place on your palace?” Sir Nevile was asked, for in the spring he is leaving to tour the world with it, in aid of charities, and New Zealand will be visited. “We have insured it for £3000,” he said, “though as a matter of fact it. is worth very much more, for there are so many heirlooms and exquisite little treasures in it.” For instance, the Hail of the Fairy Kiss has a floor composed of 2000 pieces of inlay and a silver renaissance doorway. Among the treasures in the boudoir is a screen made of Persian playing cards presented by the Shall of Persia, and a stool carved from one of the piles of the submerged lake dwellings which were laid bare during the great drought of 1921. On the sideboards in the dining room stand specimens of' plate, including a solid gold tankard of Charles 11. design.
