THE LAST LAUGH.

Tearing along at 50 miles an hour, a. young motorist had a glorious quarter of an hour (says a Sydney paper). He caused consternation to the occupants of a car following close behind by coming to a sudden" stop, every now and then, immediately in front of it. But the joke lost all its flavour when he learnt that the car he was playing with was the police night patrol car, and the passengers were very angry policemen! Travelling fast, the patrol car was speeding past Bondi Junction when another car suddenly shot in front of it. The car was going at about 50 miles an hour, but the police did not take much notice of it. They had received a wireless call to what was thought to be a case of burglary.in the Bondi district, and they were losing no time in gelting to the scene. The driver in front was innocent ol this, and time after time he pulled close to the kerhing, and the police car, with a screech of severely-tested brakes, had to pul! up. The joke came to an end at last when the patrol car, which can also spec., when necessary, caught up to the lead ing car, and the police called ou the man at the wheel to stop. The driver pulled up, and was the most surprised and disappointed man in Sydney when he was told that he had been playing tricks with the police It was a very meek individual who was taken to the Darlinghurst Police Station and charged with driving a vehicle while under the influence of liquor.
