The unemployed attempted to seize the Camberwell workhouse with a view to establishing a communal home, following a demand lor higher relief. The master was ill, and his wife, who was- in charge, telephoned the authorities. The police were rushed from all districts and eventually dispersed the crowd with truncheons. Ai number were- slightly injured on both sides. The .shopkeepers boarded up the windows of their premises.
