Cheese is slow, tho quotations being: New Zealand white 100; and coloured 10-1 s; Australian white 90s and coloured 101 s. WOOL SALE AT TIMARU (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) TIMARU, Feb. 5. The second wool sale of the season in South Canterbury opened here freight Tin- catalogue comprises 16,200 bales, compared with 11,000 bales at the first, sale uf the season. The sale commenced at 7.20 p.m. and continued till midnight, by which time three catalogues had been disposed ot. There was a full bench of buyers, representing all the wool consuming centres of the world. Though several lots were passed at. auction most of those were afterwards sold privately. Bidding for many lots was very keen, especially for lmlfbred wools, and the prices obtained to-night for finer wools were about on a par with those realised at the first sale of the season in Tinmru, coarser wools being down slightly as compared with the opening sale. The catalogue was comprised chiefly of hill country clips •mil the wool was of finer quality than was in evidence at the opening sate. Super halfbreds were most keenly sought after. Low halfbreds and tlirce-quarterbreds, although, realising good prices, did not meet witn spirived competition. Bellies and pieces were in keen demand, though bidding for these was somewhat erratic. Merinos were about on a par with the Dunedin sale.
