The Canterbury Chamber of Commerce yesterday received and unanimously adopted- the report of a special committee set up lo consider the wheat problem, says a Christchurch message. Tim committee reported supporting the action of the Government in abandoning control in favour of maintaining permanently the duty on wheat at Is Md per bushel and in favour of increas_ ing the duty on flour. The committee also recommended that the Government be asked to take steps to prevent the dumping of flour, and suggested that in years of shortage the duties collected on importations of wheat and flour he used to pay a subsidy to reduce the s.ale price of flour and bread lo the consumer. Tim .judging of the designs: for the new Methodist Theological College to lie erected in Auckland resulted as follows: Leslie I). Coombs and J. H. White, of Dunedin, first prize of £450; Charles Towle and. Messrs Owen, and Morgan, of Auckland, second prize of £2:30; It. A. Lippincott, of Auckland, third prize of £IOO. Twenty-two designs were received from all parts of the Dominion. The. new college is estimated to cost. £35,000, of which £II,OOO is in. hand. It will include hostel accommodation for university students as well as for candidates, for the ministry. There is also to be a large library and Methodist museum.
