MANAIA.

PUBLIC LIBRARY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Manaia Public .Library was iield last evening, tnere being a fair attendance of subscribers. Mr T. A. Bridge, who was voted to the chair, stated he was sorry there was not a larger attendance, though that might be taken as an indication that the subscribers were well satisfied with the work done by the committee for the past year. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £2O Is lOd.

The chairman stated that the vacancy on the committee caused through YLr G. T. Smith leaving the district was filled by- Mr TV. Vincent during the year. The following were elected as the committee for the ensuing year; Messrs T. A .Bridge, W. Snowdon, B. Badland, V. Vincent, J.. Forrester, Dr. Davies, J. A. G. Cosgrove (representing Manaia Town Board), and' J. S. McKay (Waimate Vest County Council). * Mr A. G. Bennett was elected auditor.

Hearty votes of thanks were accorded the outgoing committee, the various newspapers for their free gilts of papers to the library, and all subscribers. Immediately afterwards the first meeting of the committee was held. It was resolved, on the motion of Messsrs \Y. Vincent and B. Badland, that Mr T. A. Bridge be re-elected chairman. On the motion of Mr Cosgrove and Dr. Davies, Mr J. Forrester was reelected secretary. The following were appointed a selection committee: Messrs W. Snowdon, F. M. Poynter. and J. Forrester.

The secretary stated that he had interviewed the chairman of the Manaia Town Board re water supply for the library. The chairman of the board had stated that the. board was willing to put the water into the library, and the forman was instructed to connect up as soon as possible. The receipts for the month of January were £4 10s. and an account of 12s 8d was passed for payment.
