For the Australian .bowling carnival, commencing in Sydney on February 22, there are 774 entries for the singles and 24 7 rinks. Both figures are records. The entry from New Zealand, though small, is described as a classic one.

New Plymouth, and play vesterdav took place in perfect weather conditions and on excellent fast greens. There was a lot of good bowling ana many close matches. As the result of the seventh round lithe section play, Mason, of Pihama, headed his section with six wins amt one loss, while Christie, of Manaia, was first in his with five wins and two losses, and Robb and Foy (Hawera) and Butler (Park) lay second with the same lesuUju e aml scconc ] rounds of the post section plav Robb won both his matches, Christie and Butler won one oju-h while Mason and Foy lost both. Butler’s match with Davidson (Yoooltown) was a remarkably close one, the Park man winning by one point. He opened up with a lead ot two, but Davidson equalised and then continued to win, so that the score at the seventeenth head was four against Butler, 17 to 13. On the twentieth Butler was still two down, but by very line play he scored three and won an exciting match by a point. Butler, however, lost badly to Steel in the next. round. , . The Piliama rink could not get on to its usual good play and was badly beaten in both rounds. Christie, of Manaia, met Robb, oi Hawera, in the first round and went down bv . a margin of eight points, but in the ’ second round he disposed ot Billing fairly comfortably. . Foy had two good contests with Prioe (Fitzrov) and C. Jackson (Avon), but was not up to his usual form and lost both. , One of the closest contests was between C. Jackson (Avon) and London (Wanganui), who were level at the twenty-first head, 19 all, but. in the extra head the Wanganui man lay the shot and this got the verdict. Another fine struggle in which the scores were the same as the last mentioned was that between McNeill (Fitzroy) and Billing (West End). 1l ‘ latter liad headed his section but had io acknowledge, defeat by one to 39, after a match in which the fortunes veered either way during the match.
