HIGHLAND PIPE BAND.
Fill,ST ANNUAL MEETING. The first annual meeting of the Hawora Highland Pipe Band was held oil Thursday evening in the Savoy lea Booms. The annual report and balance-sheet, showing a balance of £351 13s. Bcl .in hand to meet an approximate liability of £335 for uniforms ordered from ■ Glasgow, were adopted. A special resolution by which the band became incorporated in terms of the Incorporated Societies Act, 1908, was passed. A number of rules conforming with the Act were adopted. The rides provide, inter alia: “lhat in the event of dissolution of the hand by sneeial resolution, or by reason of the number of playing members dropping below two, the property of the band will revert to the Hawera Scottish Society, or some society having kindred aims, and failing such a society being in existence, the equipment is to pass to the Hawera Borough Council, to be held by it for five. yeais, and if not claimed during that time by a Highland pipe band of at least five members, is to be sold and the proceeds devoted to the erection of a memorial to Robert Burns in some park or public place in Hawera.” , The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, Mr W. G. Simpson; vice-presidents, Messrs J. B. Laurenson, J. E. Campbell and Chas. Bowman; hon. secre-tary-treasurer, Mr F. H. Miller; drum- i major, Mr L. S. Poison ; pipe sergeant, Mr* Bruce Henson; pipe corporal, Mr T. A. Pickering; drum -sergeant, Mr E. A. Booth; drum corporal, Mr J. Vowless; hon. auditor, Air W. G. Walldey. ■ The following were elected honorary life members of the band in recognition of signal services rendered during the past initial year of the band: Alessrs Geo. Svme, senr., D. AlcCormick. D. G. Smart, P. Buchan, and J. F. Crawford. _ . The resignation of Pipe Major Crawford was accepted with regret. It was decided that Pine. Sergeant B. Henson carry on as pipe major for the time being. At the close of the evening’s official business opportunity was taken to present Mr F. H. Miller with a. pipe ease, suitably insci’ibed. in recognition of bis services as secretary during this the first year of the band’s existence, when the work had been heavy and had always been carried out in a cheerful and careful manner to the best interests of the hand. A oleasant supper was then partaken of. and the meeting closed with . a heartv vote of thanks to the chairman.
