PERSONAL ITEMS.
The death has occurred of Sir George Forrest, the historian (says a London message). Sir George Forrest was a high official in the Indian Civil Service, occupying important posts during a long career in India. He became a noted historian of Indian history. A visitor to Hawera for a short stay is Mr P. D. Leslie, of Capetown, general manager for South Africa of the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society. Mr Leslie is staying with Mr and Mrs L. Ritchie. Mr Sidey, of the Agricultural Department, Wanganui, is at present temporarily attached to the Hawera office, and is associated with Mr A. J• Glasson in the work being done by the staff. Mr Sidey lias recently returned after a year’s study and practical course at Hawkesbury Dairy School, New South Wales. A London cable message reports the death of Admiral Sir Ernest Tronbridge, which occurred suddenly during a tea dance at Biarritz. Admiral Tronbridge had a distinguished career in the Navy. He was Chief of the War Staff at the Admiralty in 1911 and 1912, after which he was appointed to command the Mediterranean cruiser squadron. He served in the Mediterranean during the Great War.
