LIFE-SAVING CONTEST. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION’.) NAPIER, Jan. 2*3. The annual life-saving competition for the Nelson Shield was held off Marino Parade to-day. An interesting contest resulted in Maranui (Wellington) annexing the shield from the holders (Lyall Bay;, by a narrow margin of two points. Positions of competing teams: Maranui, .165 points, 1; Lyall Bay, L 65, 2; Canterbury’, 147, 3; Castleelitr (Wanganui). 144, 4; Taranaki, 143, 5; llawke’s Bay, 122, 6. OP UNAKE MEETING'.
The Opuuake Swimming Club has been granted February 6 as the date for holding its swimming sports. A programme of attractive events has been issued. Competitors from other centres will compete in the open events.
