IN DISTRESS
TWO BRITISH SHIPS.
BOTH IN SERIOUS PLIGHT. STORM IN ATLANTIC. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Jan. 27, 11.10 a.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 26. The lives of at least sixty seamen are in jeopardy on two steamships which are battling in mid-ocean against one of the worst storms ever encountered in the Atlantic. The liner President Roosevelt is standing by the British freighter Antinoe, to aid her crew of twenty-five if the worst befalls the ship. The President Roosevelt has lost two seamen of a rescue party which made an unsuccessful attempt to board the distressed craft.
At the same time the liner Bremen is hastening to help another British freighter, The Parisian, which is in serious plight. Radio broadcasting officials, whose attempts to reach Europe have been marred the last two nights by S.O.S. signals from the distressed ships, will make another effort to-night. Reutei.
