Mr. J. W. H. Martin has been reappointed a member of the Taranaki Land Board.

Major Greene has been appointed the direct representative of the Salvation Army Immigration Department for New Zealand.

Commissioner and Mrs Lamb, also .Major Greene, of the Salvation Army, visited Mt. Egmont (Dawson Falls’ House) to-day, after which they proceeded on to New Plymouth. Mr G. P. Cook, the Kaponga town clerk, who has -been away on two weeks.’ leave of absence, returned to Kaponga on Monday evening. He was accompanied by .Mrs Cook and family, who have' been on a visit of three months’ duration to the Woodville district.

The Rev. C. J. Bush-King, late curate to St. Mary’s, Hawera, has been offered, and has accepted the new parochial district which has been formed at Otorolianga, and which includes the Kawhia and Otorohanga districts. The Rev. Bush-King takes up his new duties in February.

An excellent report has been received; by Mts Pennell from, the director of the Boyal Academy on the progress of Walter Fennell. Referring to singing th© reported stated: “Regular and punctual, exemplary in industry, and remarkable progress.” Piano: “Fair industry, fair progress, but should work harder, as he hasi good talents for the piano.” Walter sat for an examination for extension of his scholarship, but at time of his writing no result had been received.

Mr. H. A. Goudie, who retires from the State Forest Service on March 31 to take over the management of the New Zealand Redwood Forests, Ltd., is leaving Rotorua for his final advisory tour of the Dominion in the interest of the State service this week. Mr. Goudie spent 25 years in the forest service, during which period 55,000 acres were afforested and 120,000,000 trees were raised from seed under his direction. Mr. W. T. Morrison has been transferred from Christchurch to succeed Mr. Goudie as conservator of forests. —Press Association.

Prior to th© commencement of business at the Magistrate’s Court at Eltham yesterday welcome greetings were extended to Mr A. M. Mowlem, S.M., who recently resumed duty after a term of sick leave spent in Australia. Speaking on behalf of ‘the Eltham members of the legal profession, Mr T. B. Crump expressed their satisfaction that Mr Mowlem was able to resume his duties, and hoped that the good health to which it was understood he had been restored would he continuous. In reply, Mr Mowlem thanked Mr Crump and his colleagues for their greetings, and intimated that he had thoroughly enjoyed his vacation, as the result of which his health had been fully restored. He expressed appreciation of the manner in which members of the profession had cooperated with him in discharging the business of the and in wishing them success in the coming year he hoped that similarly pleasant relations would exist.
