RAWHITIROA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Although the night was an extremely boisterous one, the residents of this district turned out in spite of it to show their appreciation and to say farewell to the head teacher of our school, Mrs McNeil, who has been transferred to Kaimata. We congratulate that district on obtaining such a good teacher as Mrs McNeil, who proved herself to bo a capable officer during her 11 years at RaAvhitiroa. Mr J. Cocker, on behalf of the residents, expressed regret at her impending departure, but paid many tributes tocher for the good work done in the school. He also referred appreciatively to the interest she had taken in the Boys’ and Girls’ Club. As a resident she* had ahvays done her full share in all local efforts for the good of the district, and her place would be a hard one to fill. He wished her health, happiness and success in her new home. Messrs G. Major and F. Silver, who had both been chairman of the School Committee during her term, endorsed the remarks of the chairman. Mr Cocker then presented to Mrs McNeil a handsome oak and silver tray, op which stood a cream bowl and sugar basin. Mr F. Silver, on behalf of the Rawliitiroa Tennis Club, also expressed regret at the departure of one who bad proved herself to be a very useful and generous member. On behalf of members lie asked Airs McNeil to accept a fine teapot as a small token of their esteem. After “She’s a jolly good felloAv” had been sung and three cheers had been given for the guest of the evening, Mrs McNeil suitably replied, thanking everybody, particularly the parents, for their co-operation with her in the work of the school.
