MEMORIAL AT OHWE. / VETERANS’ ACKNOWi]DOME NT. Following on the unveilin of the memorial cairn at Ohawe onfanuary 13, the hon. secretary of the iterans’ Association in New Plymouth as sent to the chairman and committeof the function an acknowledgment othe invitation sent to the veterans toe pressent at the ceremony, in which > says: “It brought many of thi everdecreasing number of Maori Vr veterans to a most happy gathering We had an exceedingly pleasant ti?, for which we feel ourselves verymuch your debtors, and our heartfelt ranks is a very small payment for all \i did for us on that occasion.” Iheyratefully acknowledge the kindness the authorities of the Soldiers’ Clu for their hospitality, the membei or the Automobile Association far taking them to and from the irn, the Hawera Municipal Band foitho ‘ ‘ very appropriate solemn playin iu the enclosure, the volleys fired byhe firing party, and the “Last Pt” played by Sergeant-Major Malic,}, “reminders of our fighting days.” or the work of the Women’s Nationaleserve they are especially grateful, they “gave their time and expense in providing for our and comfort.” They specially m/ tion Mr. John Finlay, “who 3 always taken great interest in the V fare •of the Maori war veterans South Taranaki, has personally watc cd over the graves of the fallen ai kept them in order. He has also wri ten many letters in the Hawera Sti with the object of keeping the welfai of the veterans in view, and we are it uebted to him as prime mover in bring ing us together at Ohawe and for his untiring energy in keeping in touch with the Government officials on behalf both of the living and of the dead. . . . We hope wo shall enjoy many more similar gatherings.”
