IS RACING DANGEROUS?
It is indeed unfortunate that an a-.-cident resulting in the death of two motoring enthusiasts should have marred the proceedings of the Sydney ractrack at Maroubrn so early in its eaiver. Until such time as the Ausnalian drivers hecome accustomed to track conditions there are bound to bone or two mishaps, but let us hope •:lmt there will be no further loss of iilV. In this connection the views of Louis Deluge, the famous Continental manufacturer and racing driver as expressed in a roe out interview are interesting. He said: “I Have always insisted that the present type of racing ,-ar is too fast for safety; it has become so fast, indeed, that I do not consider that there are more than half a dozen men at the present capable of driving a modern car at its maximum speed. With cars equipped with a two-litre engine we now obtain speeds of 130 miles an hour or more. Driving skill and the degree of willingness of the men to accept the risks are becoming th i dominating factors in modern races.”
