At the annual, general meeting of the National Farmers’ Union in London the Alilk and Dairy Produce Committee reported that a determined effort should be made to secure the compulsory labelling of imported: cheese, under the provisions of the Merchandise Alarks Bill. The- Parliamentary Committee, reporting on the £1,000,001) giant lor assisting the marketing of Dominion produce, endorsed the view that taxpayers’ money should not be employed to give preference to Dominion produce over home products in the British market. —Reuter.
PROTECTION FOR FARMERS

Mr G. AY. Langford, in Iris presidential address at the National Farmers’ Union Conference, said that the Government’s policy of securing the maintenance of land in arable cultivation unquestionably involved some form of protection, either through l a Customs tariff or a subsidy. When other industries were accorded statutory protection under the Safeguarding of Industries Act, he was not prepared to abandon one iota their claim to equal consideration. —Reuter.
