MAGGIE PAPAKURA.
BACK IN NEW ZEALAND AGAIN (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 21. ‘T am delighted to he hack in dear old New Zealand. I have so looked forward to my visit to my Maori people and their friends. It was a great pleasure coming on the Arawa, reminding me of my ancestors crossing the great ocean of Kiwa in the canoe Arawa. with Tamo te Kupua at their head.” said Mrs M. Staples Brown, better known as Maggie Papakura. Maggie was once a famous Rotorua guide. She will spend eight weeks in the Dominion. Great preparations have been made for her welcome at Rotorua, where a hui will be held. Mrs Staples Brown will be remembered by hundreds of ex-service men whom she entertained so lavishly during 1915-16 at her beautiful home at Walton-on-Thames. She was one of the most popular hostesses who threw their homes open to convalescent “diggers.” She left the Dominion 14 years ago to marry Mr Stardes Brown, of Oxford. She returns in March via United States of America.
