EGMONT RACING CLUB.

G ROUND IMPRO YEMENI'S. BEAUTIFYING THE LAWN. It is the present-day practice of racing clubs of any importance not only to bring up to date their properties in everything that pertains to the actual business of racing, but also to beautij.\ the grounds and surroundings to add to the pleasure of patrons. The Eguionf liacing Club has always been one of the most progressive clubs and possesses a very line property which from time t: time has been improved in the directions above referred to, and since last race meeting further improvements have been effected Avhicli patrons will very much appreciate. A permanent improvement is the substitution ot‘ ’■ iron railing for the wooden fence which separated the saddling paddock, bird-cage and public enclosure from the racing track. The new fence, Avliile being more substantial, has a much better appearance and offers practically no obstruction to a clear view.

The approach to the saddling paddock and lawn from the carriage entrance gates lias now been permanently laid down in grass and the wide pathway bordered on either side by flowerbeds ablaze with bloom, lias a very fine appearauee. The flower-beds have also beam extended beyond the tea kiosk for a considerable distance and many beautiful and choice plants will he found in full bloom, as is also the case with the island beds dotted about the lawn, those contiguous to the grandstand and those surrounding the bird-cage enclosure. The club’s gardening committee and the gardener, Mr. Stevenson, are entitled to much credit for the initiation ami development of the beautifying scheme. The racing track is in splendid order, in fact, it lias never been better, and Mr. Morse is to be congratulated on the success attendant on his painstaking efforts. With record entries and such excellent appointments for racing, plus beautiful surroundings, the forthcoming race meeting should be successful l>evoml the ordinary.
