TARANAKI POWER BOARD.
WORK OF THE MONTH. 'flic monthly meeting, of the Board was held in Eitbhain yesterday. There were present: Messrs. M. (I. (Jarman (chairman), \V. H. Were, R. ,J. Kiiucikey. (’. M. M.cGuimiess, T. If. Anderson. V. ! lark ness and J. T. Belcher. ENGINEER'S REPORT The engineers (W. H. Olimie and Aon) reported for the month as follows : HYDRO DEV EiLO'P'MENT. Main Tunnel.—Arrangements were made with some of the tuMuellers to drive towards the tunnelling machine from No. 1 shaft at their contract rates. The contractors commenced on the 28th ult., and have since worked two shifts except on statutory holidays. Progress, including time spent on timbering, amounts to about four feet per .shift. Three shifts are now employed. Arrangements have been made to crush shingle at the head-works, with die board’s crushing plant, for concreting this section of the tunnel. By working simultaneously on three faces, it i.s expected that the final section of the tunnel will be completed before next! September. Contracts.—AVork which was interrupted by the holidays lias commenced again on all contracts. RETICULATION. Pole Erection.—During the month poles have been erected as under: Stuart road north, 19 poles, 1 transformer structure, 12 service poles; Pembroke road, 23 poles, 3 transformer structure, 5 service poles; Opunake road, 19 poles. Wire Erection.—Overhead wires have been erected as under: Denbigh road, 207 chains h.p., 280 chains 1.p., and 28 chains services; Qhura road, suh-atation
to Stratford, ISO chains h.p. and 129 chains 1.p.; Stuart road north, 180 chains h.p., 115 chains 1.p., and 7 devices; Skinner road, 36 chains 1.p.; Hu road, 30 chains of h.p. and 80 chains l.p and 4 services. Tree Cutting.—Trees have been cleared on the Stuart, Opunake and Pembroke roads. Transformers.—The following transformers have been livened up: Junction road, one 25 Iv.V.A.; Bird road, one 25 K.V.A,; Tariki crusher, one 25 K.Y.A. A shipment of transformers arrived bv the Port Hunter early in the month, and these are now being dried out and tested, and by the 16th inst. all those immediately required will be erected. Pole Supplies.—A consignment ol hardwood poles bare arrived, and are now being unloaded. The reports were adopted. After some discussion it was decided that arrangements should be made to extend the supply of power to Tikorangi, Tarata and York road, as reports to hand indicated that this was desirable.
