MEAT FOR EXPORT.

DECREASE IN KILLINGS. Statistics from the New Zealand .Meat Producers’ Board of killings at all New Zealand freezing works for the two months ended December 31, 1925, showed a considerable decline as compared with the figures for the corresponding period of the previous year, tn all cases except pork a decrease was noted. In the North Island lamb killings were almost 50,000 head above the previous period figures, but in the South Island a fall of from 81,000 to 18,000 resulted in the total figures being below the previous records. Boneless beef prepared for export in the North Island amounted to little more than half of the number of careases dealt with during the 1924 period, while the South Island showed a similar decrease. Beef quarters were even worse, disclosing a fall of from 50,000 to 12,000. The Dominion lamb killings were most consistent with the previous year’s figures, for while a decrease was recorded it only amounted to little more than two per cent. But for the enormous falling off in the South Island a considerable increase would have been noted this year. Mutton figures were also substantially less than in 1924. The number of wethers and ewes killed was reduced from 328,000 in 1924 to 211,000 in 1925. Only pork showed an increase, and this was quite good, over 66 per cent more pigs being killed over the period under review than in 1924. The detailed figures for the North Island and the Dominion figures are as follows : NORTH ISLAND. 1925 1924 Beef (quarters) ... 12,276 50,089 Wether mutton ... 169,450 248.110 Ewe mutton 38,714 72,774 Lamb 643.044 595,395 Pork 5,756 3.054 Boneless beef ... 17,130 26,334 NEW ZEALAND TOTALS.
