A SUMMER SCHOOL.
A TEACHING EXPERIMENT. (BV TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION./ CAMBRIDGE, -Jan. 19. The first teachers’ summer school held in the North Island commenced at Cambridge yesterday. Nearly 200 teachers from all parts of the island werfe present. The lecturers include Professor Shelley (Canterbury College), Dr. Marshall, Professor Milner, Dr. Buck and Messrs Yar’ey and Hudson The visitors were officially welcomed bv the Mayor at a big gathering in the Town Half last night, after which Mr Milner, rector of th e Waitaki Boys High School, delivered a brilliant lectui> dealing with the problems of the Pacific, making a strong plea for an international spirit. The school will be continued for ten days. An e’aborate programme includes lectures in the mornings and evenings, the -afternoons being devoted to games and amusements. The sc-hoo) is in the nature of an experiment, but it promises to he a huge success in 3 very way. The male teachers are camped in the public grounds, and the women at the school buildings, while the professors are accommodated by the citizens.
