THE DOMINION TOl'lliX 10v. (BY TKLF.GRAI’H PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, Jan. 18. The Dominion bowling tournament wais continued to-day in fine weather. 'lVo rounds of the pairs champions,hip were completed. The third round was interrupted at 0.-L> by a heavy thu inletstorm and torrential rain, and play was postponed till 8.30 to-morrow. ELTHAM V. PI HA IMA. Two rinks from the Eltham Howling Club vistied Pihama oil Saturday, and spent a most interesting day. the games ended in a win for the visitors, the total scores being Eltham _ Ll2, Pihama 106. The Pihama green is reported to be in. excellent condition this season ; in fact, howlers regard it as being the best in South Taranaki. X.Z. TOURNAMENT. BRILLIANT DISPLAYS. Reports from the Dunedin papers show that the play in many of the matches of the singles was of a very lii o-]i order indeed. Competition was very keen and much of the play was of a grade Tarely seen on a howling green. One match which called for special mention was that between Tillie and the ex-cliampion. Walker, o± Auckland. Reporting the match the Times said: “In the seventh round the game, between Walker and Tillie called for unstinted admiration. In tlm opinion of all howlers it was one of Hie finest games seen for many a day. Both players were masters of the game, and Tillie had the ex-cliampiou thinking from the start. It was a fine ganie right through, both men drawing with accuracy. Walker took the first head with a single, and then Tillie took the following three heads to load hv 5 to 1. Walker had the shot howl in the fifth, and Tillie scored again. In the seventh a. brace went to Walker. Tlic eighth head was brilliant, no bowl being more than ISili. from the kitty. Walker lost in the end. 1 down.”

CHAMPIONSHIP RINKS. PLAY OF lIAWEEA MEN., The Times reports that there were 134 rinks entered, necessitating the use of eleven greens, each section playing on a different green each day. Hawera played in A .section and met with a fair amount of success. In the first two rounds, the following particulars are culled from the Times: Davies (West End, Timaru) had an easy win against 'Corkill (Hawera). They scored 12 points to their opponents’ two in the first seven heads, and maintained a comfortable lead throughout:. Orchard (Christchurch) took the lead front Corkill (Hawera) at the third head, but the latter got in front again at the ninth. The' scores were 13 all when 16 heads had been played. At the nineteenth head Orchard got the lead and maintained it till the finish, winning by 21 points to 17. Second Day—When 14 heads had been played Thorn (Mataura) appeared 1 likely to have an easy win against Corkill (Hawera), but the latter made a fine recovery in the concluding stages and was defeated by only two points. At the 14th head Thorn was leading by 22 points to 3, but the Hawera rink gradually reduced the gap. With two heads to go 'Corkill was six down. .but. he got five on She, twenty fourth head. A single to Thorn on the lust head enabled him to win by two points. In the fourth, round Olaridge led Corkill by 10 points to 0 ah the 7th head, and it was not till the lath head that the Hawera rink got in front. Claridge led by 21 points to —oi at the 19th head, but Corkill did nearly all the scoring after that and won easily by 31 points to 22. Third Day —The Britishers sustained their fourth loss, going down to Corkill’s Hawera rink., The game was fairly even up to the 20th head, in spite of Die fact that at the sixth the overseas visitors had a lead of 10 to 5. After the 20tli end the Hawera men got moving, and finished up with the score 27 to 19 in their favour.

Corkill also won against Tonkin (Dunedin) by 25 to 22.

KAPONGA CLUB. A buttons challenge match, played on the Kaponga green on Saturday, resulted in a win for the holders oy 24 to 17. The teams were : Holders—Cran, Moss, Dawson, Tyack (s) ; challengers—Henderson, Stevens, Payne, Hawkins (s). PARK CLUB PINKS. The following plavers have been selected to represent the Park Bowling Club against Hawera A at Park green to-morrow: Pnrkes, Chadwick, Kendall, Butler; MePhillins. Thurston. Quin, Goodwin; Villars.' Hall, Curtis, Brunette; Murdoch, McCormick, Bilton. Cunningham.
