EGMONT A. AND P. ASSN.
APPEAL FOR FUNDS. GYMKHANA DECIDED UPON., At a special meeting of the general committee of the Egmont A. and P. Association held this afternoon it was decided, on the recommendation, of the finance committee, to organise, a gymkhana with the object of assisting the funds of the association. There were present: Messrs S. C. Tonks (president) in the chair, F. Hoskin, D. Oroeker, A. Lankow, R. McCay, F. Gillanders, J. S. T. Short, W. McL’Dowie, H., E. Johnson, A. J. Haseltine, N. Crocker, F. Mills, jun., and E. A. Washer. An apology for. absence was received from Mr A Hunter. Explaining the reason for the meetr ing, the chairman intimated that it had been called to consider certain proposals made by the finance, committee, which had -carefully investigated the financial position, and was of the opinion that a move must be made to effect an improvement. Judging iby the result of the last show, which netted approximately £l4O or £l5O profit, it would require a very -successful one to secure a profit of £2OO. As a means of -securing financial support, continued the chairman, -the committee had at a recent meeting decided to recommend that a gymkhana be held on Wednesday, March 31. A definite programme had not been drawn up, but it was proposed- to arrange athletic and novelty contests, and as a special attraction to include two or three trotting events. Replying to Mr McL’Dowie, the chairman said there shou’d be no difficulty in obtaining the necessary permit for the trotting events. Mr E. A. Washer supported this opinion. Mr Crocker moved that the recommendation of the Finance Committee to hold a gymkhana on Wednesday, March 31, be adopted. Mr Lankow seconded the motion. The proposa] met with the general approval of the meeting, but opinions varied as to the suitability of the date recommended. It was suggested that the decision as to the date could be left to a subcommittee after representations had been made to- the local sports bodies and further inquiries instigated. The motion was amended so as to read: “That a gymkhana be he’d at a date to be fixed by a sub-committee,” and in this form was carried. The president (Mr S. C. Tonks), vicepresident (Mr W. M*cL-’Dowie), and Messrs D. Crocker and E. A. Washer and the secretary were appointed as a sub-committee to make inquiries and arrange a date accordingly. The tender submitted by Mr E. A. Paeey, builder, l>eing the cheaper of the two received tc, brick up a wi.pdow of the meeting room and insta] two skylights was accepted.
