CAR PLUNGES INTO MUD.
TAUT.ED OUT BY STEAM-ROLLER. Last week two men were starting a Dodge five-seater touring car opposite the Mo nek’s Bay (Sumner) tram rop. when the steering gear jammed and the car shot over the embankment and overturned on to the mud below. Both occupants escaped without a scratch. Mr Parsonby’s young friend was driving, and was just getting into second gear, when the car became unmanageable and made a leap tor the water. One «,f the tram poles was missed bv a few feet and the occupants found themselves amongst shattered glass with the car on top of them. The wind screen was crushed -mi to the steering wheel and the hood torn off in front. Only small pieces of •Rate glass were left in the screen frame. Both men had a miraculous escape. The services of the tramway steam--.•slier, which stood at the corner, were ;'quisßioned. and the damagfetl car hauled, back to the road. From genera 1 appearances the damage seems to be external only, and no difficulty was experienced in hauling • the vehicle to the city for repairs.
