During the Christmas gathering at Ratana some good advice was given to visiting Maoris by a member of the executive. It is a well-known fact that in the past some Maoris who attended large gatherings were inclined to neglect their farms and stock for the time being, and pigs were allowed to roam through the. pumpkin patch to look after themselves, while milch cows could bellow until they went bone dry- This practice has now been discontinued. The Maoris were advised that all were very. welcome to visit Ratana, but the visits must not be unduly prolonged, and before leaving home they were required to arrange that sufficient Maoris were left to carry on the work and 'properly tend to the animals. With this object in view half' were advised to attend the Christmas gatherings and half at Easter.
