The compulsory enforcement of the forty-four hour week is causing much disorganisation in various directions. The courts are flooded with applications for readjustment of conditions. In a number of cases mutual adjustments have been reached between employers and employees. A very general opinion among employers is -that the reduction of hours will have a serious effect on trade and will mean an increase in the cost of living for the general public.
