TENNIS.
Auckland and Canterbury Associations are seized with the need for a coach, especially for the junior players aad beginners. The Auckland Herald reports that an enthusiast who specially studied the question during a tour of England in the tennis season expressed the opinion that most of tin* coaches come from the ranks of the ball boys at the various clubs. The boys acquire their knowledge of the game during their spare time. It is generally recognised, however, that there is a difficulty in securing coaches, and that very few good players are coaching today. Commenting oil the year’s form of some of the loading players, Tilden says: “ Millie 1 Suzanne Lenglen had the greatest season ever known by any player. She not only staged a comeback, Ifut actually surpassed anything achieved previously. She had a year of superlative performance. All must hail her as beyond criticism.” “Billy Johnston had a great season. He made a wonderful come-back, and is as good as ever.”
