BRITAIN’S FINANCES.

BIG DEFICIT REPORTED. BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT (Received Jan. 2, 10.35 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 1. Exchequer returns for the first nine months of the current financial year show a deficiency of nearly £124,000,000, as compared with £89,000,000 for the corresponding period of last year, but this, however, by the end of the year was converted into a small surplus. A similar happy position was expected now. Portion of the. deficiency was in consequence of heavy supplementary votes in connection with the coal subsidy, and the loss regarding Wembley Exhibition, which increased the original estimates by £21.000,000. —Reuter.
