A New Year message signed by < Baron Hunstion, chairman of the Jnewly-eiected Empire Industries Association, and Mr. lien Morgan, chairman of tlie British Empire Producers’ Organisation, and other leading industrialists, says : “In view of the general attitude of the country _ to Empire problems, efforts for international pacification and advances in Imperial preference, the prospects for 1926 are r much brighter than they were in 1925, 1 “ but it would be foolish to imagine that unemployment can be reduced to negligible proportions, or _ that the standard of living of the British people and the security of their interests can be raised, or even maintained, unless the nation is prepared to pursue a more definite policy in respect to Em- • pire development by means of preference in Empire settlement and. Imperial loans, also a bolder policy in regard to guaranteeing our essential industries against unfair competition, monopolist foreign trusts, and sweated labour.” —Reuter.
