A London cable message states that Mr Rudyard Kipling, who was sixty on Wednesday, is making a good recovery from his recent illness. Rev. J. G. Chapman, Wesleyan Minister, formerly in charge of Taranaki Street Church, Wellington, died yesterday, says a message from that city. He was 62 yearn of age. In honour of her approaching marriage to Mr W. Renai, of Wellington, Miss K. Severne, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs O. H. Severne, of Kaponga, was entertained at a gift evening bv a gathering of her friends in the Parish Hall on Tuesday. An enjovable programme of dancing and other social amusements had been arranged, and was carried through in excellent fashion to the evident pleasure of all. Commissioner and Mrs David Lamb, of the Emigration-Immigration Department of the Salvation Army, will be visiting New Zealand early in the New Year, and will touch at all the main centres. Mr. A. K. Fyson, Hawera manager of the Farmers’ Co-op., lias been appointed secretary of the Mells, Mere-1 mere, Melrose, . and Ararata Dairy Factory Companies in succession to Mr. T. J. Salmon, who takes up duty early in the new year as manager of the* Hawera branch of Messrs Newton King, Ltd. The secretarial duties connected with the Normanby Dairy Factory Company will he undertaken by Messrs Burdekin, Walkley and Cameron, Fifty years ago Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Moon, of Leach Street, were married at the New Plymouth Primitive Methodist Church by the Rev. John Dumb ell. A large gathering of children, grandchildren, other* relatives and friends celebrated .the golden wedding on Christmas Day, says, the Herald. The children of the marriage, most of whom were present at the- Christmas Day celebration, were: William Moon (Paraparaumu), Mrs. F. Moore (Fei filing). Mrs. Stephens (Sydney), Mrs. S. Barnes (New Ply-mo.uth), Mrs. Buck-man (Pio Piio), Mrs. -Monte Julian (New Plymouth), and Mrs. C. Crutch (Hawera).
