FIRE AT BLENHEIM.
TWO SHOPS DESTROYED. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) BLENHEIM, Dec. 30. Two .shops in the business quarter of the town were totally destroyed by fire this morning at 2.30 o’clock. One was occupied by William Bateman, a cvcle dealer, and the other by Mervyn Patchett, a confectioner. Both were practically burnt out before the alarm was given The -brigade made a remarkable save of the adjoining buildings. , . T „ The shops Avere owned by J. D. Kayner, and one was insured for £375, including plate glass and The other was insured for £270, including the plate glass. Bateman’s stock Avas covered by £350. Patchett’ s stock Avas insured lor £6OO. The adjoining shoos Avere oAvned by S. Adams and Mrs. J. Hood, and were occupied by Mrs. M. Scollard and E. and J. Walton, both ladies’ outfitters. The buildings Avere slightly damaged by ismoke and water. Scollard’s insurances AA'ere not knoAvn, but W alton s stock was insured for £3OOO. The damage done Avas very slight. The outbreak started in the rear of Patchett s shop; Its origin Ava§ not known.
