The third day was most interesting in every way, the various events reaching in most cases' a stage where semifinals were reached, arid all are making rapid headway towards conclusion. Two finals were played, girls’ championship and men’s handicap (A grade). The latter went to a Hawera hoy after a good struggle. Results: MEN’S CHAMPION SINGLES. Second round.—A. Powdrell beat C. Collins B—6,8 —6, 6 —3. Third round.—Caplen won from R. A. Innes by default; P. H. Jones won from Torrens by default; A. Powdrell beat G. Wills 6—2, 6—4. Fourth round.—S. Powdrell won by default from Caplen ; P. H. Jones beat E. Hawkins 6—l, 5—7, 6 —2 ;L. Berg beat Kururangi 6—3, 6 —4. LADIES’ CHAMPION SINGLES. Third round.—Aire Weston beat Miss Knight 6—2, 6 —l; Miss L. Pease beat Miss P. L.' Baker 5 —6, 6 —5, 6—4; Miss Nutting beat Mrs Berg 6—2, o—6,0 —6, 0 2 MEN’S HANDICAP SINGLES, B GRADE. Final.—P. McCarthy (22) beat L. W. Innes (5) 70 —53. The winner, who played consistently right thiough, Avon every match easily, except his "first against N. Richards, the scratch man. In that he just maintained his lead and won 71 —69. He played a good and resourceful game •against his older and more experienced opponent and thoroughly deserved victory. He won by exactly his handiCaP GIRLS’ CHAMPION SINGLES. Final. —Miss M. Nutting (Inglewood) beat Miss Howard (Wellington) 6—l, 4 —6, 6 —3. The winner, a neat player, was in capital form and ran away in the fii'st round. Her opponent, by fine backline' play, turned the tabes in the second, but in the third Miss Nutting puiyed consistently and well and won the final. BOYS’ CHAMPION SINGLES. Second round. —J.
