Burgess, and Brown’s stock vra& insured for £3200 in the Standard Office, and the fittings for £2OO. A Wellington message reports that Mr J. H. McKenzie has been elected secretary of the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association in succession to Mr H. E. Combs, resigned. Mr H. H. Brown, assistant secretary, has been appointed organiser. Mr McKenzie, who is an officer in the general division. was formerly president of the P. and T. Officers’ Association. A similar experience to that of the Hawera retailers has been reported from Stratford. Reports from that centre stated that the Christmas frade was later than usual in commencing, and for a whi'e it was feared that the results might not be . altogether satisfactory. Fortunately the trade improved, and retailers anticipate a most successful season.
