In conclusion, Mr Larcom congratulated Miss Anthony, on behalf of the committee and parents, for th 6 work done during the year. Although the working year had been shortened by the influenza, epidemic, he considered that the efficiency of the school was of a higher standard than ever, a fact that was borne out by the exce*ence of the report received from the school inspector on his annual examination. While congratulating Tom and Frank Wilson upon having gained proficiency, he added that during the last three years all Standard 6 pupils who had been presented for examination had gained their proficiency certificates. In outside work also the school was not backward, as it had held the Tisch shield for sclioolgrounds of Grade 1 and 2 schools for the last half-year, and had also competed suecesfully at the Hawera Winter Show, where it had gained second place for the Afforestation Shield, being only one mark behind the winning school. Mr Larcom then called upon the children to give their teacher three cheers, and these were very heartily given. This concluded the children's part of the evening. Dancing was indulged in until late, and everyone went home feeling very satisfied with the night’s entertainment. TISCH SHIELD. On Friday the school was visited by Mr Ridling, chief agricultural instructor for Taranaki, and Mr Mackay, of Stratford, to judge the grounds for the .Tisch Shie’d; It is very gratifying to all concerned to learn that the school will hold the shield for another year, having won first place for Grade 1 and 2 schoo-'s throughout Taranaki. Teacher and pupils are to be congratulated on this good result.
