PARIS, Dee. 22. Captain Gordon Canning, .special correspondent of the Daily Express with Albd-el-Krim, the Riff leader, arrived at Paris in (the hope of discussing the question of peace in Morocco with the Premier (M. Briand), who refuses to meet Captain Claiming, pointing out that peace must be jointly discussed with France :and (Spain. Captain Canning sibate® that Abd-el-Krim is ready to acknowledge’ the Sultan’,s .spiritual authority if France and Spain grant an autonomy .analogous te the British Dominions. He is ready to recognise the principles of an open door to Morocco, but demands the evacuation of Adjir. In return he will abandon his claim to Tetuan. Tllie Spaniards thus have Melilla, Ceuta, Earache and a hinterland of twenty-five kilometres.
Abd-el-Krim’s letter does not give Captain Canning authority to enter into negotiations.
