PERSONAL ITEMS.
The Hon. E. L. P. Wood, Viceroydesignate of India, and until recently Minister for Agriculture, takes the title of Baron Irwin of Kirby-under-Dale (says a. London message). Mr J. A. Hansen, engineer of the Waimate West County Council and president of the New Zealand Athletic Union, will leave Manaia on Saturday for Dunedin, to attend the New Zealand Athletic and Cycle Union conference. Whilst in the South Island Mr Hansen will inspect and report on their roads for several of the county councils there. At the end-’of-the-year function at the Patea School presentations were made to Misses Hemingway and Paterson, pupil teachers, who were proceeding to training college"next year. A presentation was also made to Mr. J. Paterson by the pupils of the secondary department, while the headmaster, Mr. J. Matthews, was made the recipient of a handsome wallet presented on behalf of the pupils of the school by the Mayor.
