PERSONAL ITEMS.
Mr and Mrs W. G. Walk ley left this morning on a trip to Sydney. They will return early in January. Mr J. S. Barton, S.M., was to leave Wanganui to-day for Australia on a holiday visit. Miss Isabel Balk left Hawera by the mail train to-day to attend the Chiropractors’ Conference in Dunedin. Mr Frank Hutchens, the well-known New Zealand pianist, who. is now resident in Sydney, is going to New York, where he will give concerts. A cable message from New York reported the death of Mr Frank Munsey, the newspaper publisher. He died on Tuesday from peritonitis, following on . am operation for appendicitis. The officer-in-charge of the Government Advertising 'Office, Wlellington (Mr W. A. von Rersenberg), with Mrs von Rersenberg and family, is at present on a. holiday visit to Hawera. Second-Lieutenants C. F. Norton, F. J. Co,rkill and P. W. Wright, of the Ist Battalion, Taranaki Regiment, and R. Henderson, of the Ist Cadet Battalion, have been promoted to the rank of lieutenant. - . Mr H. A. Hansen, of Manaia, president of the New Zealand Athletic Association, left this morning for Dunedin to attend the New Zealand Athletic Union’s sports. Mr Hansen has been instructed by the Waimate West County Council to inspect the work being done in certain counties in .Otago. The death took place at Melbourne a few days ago of Mrs J. V. Brown, wife of Mr J. Vigor Brown, who was for many years Mayor and member of Parliament for Napier. The late Mrs Brown was Mr Brown’s second wife, and took a deep interest in all matters pertaining to the welfare of Napier and its people. She was married to Mr Brown in 1895, and had, ever since, been a prominent figure in Napier’s public life.
